Huang Rong's Wuxia Hair 黄蓉的武侠发型DIY

HR Screencaps generously provided by Sapphiresky (AncientChinese.net)
This one is dedicated to my favorite wuxia character, Huang Rong of Legend of the Condor Heroes. She's clever, sly, bubbly, and caring - let's not forget her kick-ass martial arts skills! To get her hairdo and for more pictures, read more to the tutorial!

I decided to change up the way I do these hair tutorials, so I present you with sketches! I would love feedback on this style of hair tutorials, so I know what you guys like for future tutorials.
Please forgive me as I probably more or less butchered this lovely look :P My hair wasn't in prime condition and I took the pictures late at night... But trust me this is a very doable hairstyle.

Huang Rong has a very wearable ancient chinese hair - her hair reminds me of cornrows! So on with the tutorial.
Brush your hair free of tangles.
Section the front of your hair into 3 sections, and begin french braid on each. Switch to normal braiding once you reach the crown of your head (hope you understand this part, it's less tricky if you reference the original picture at the top of this post).

Once you have your 3 braids, roll them like the step 5 indicates (the two on the sides should actually be rolled towards the middle. Secure the 3 rolls with bobby pins.
Notice how Huang Rong has braids hanging down both sides of her hairdo, so I made two braids.
An optional step is to accessorize! HR seems to like flower accessories, so I placed two flower pins to one side of my hair. You can get flower pins at Forever 21 or H&M for less than 3 USD.

Again, if my version didn't do HR's look justice, I will improve from this, foshoo!

Thannks for reading this tutorial!

Who is your favorite wuxia character?

    1. Aww thank you for the sweet comment!! You definitely have to try this, it's actually one of the few ancient chinese series hairdos that are wearable (no need of extraneous hairpieces). IT would be awesome to have her outfit haha

    2. Ohh btw, would it be possible to expand on how to do french braids? I've never done it before and don't really know how.

    4. YAYYY I can't wait to see the french braiding tutorial! Then I shall try out the hairstyle. I hope I can still do it with my sort of short hair (which I regret cutting now LOL!!!)

Is there other ancient hairstyles you plan to make a tutorial for in the future?

And OMG THANKS SO MUCH!!! I shall post it up when the french braid tutorial is up so I can put it together :D

    5. Do you have shoulder length hair? Because if so, my french braid tutorial would be perfect for you, since it's a tuck-in french braid! You'll see what i mean once the tutorial is up.

Yeah, definitely going to have other ancient hairdos, but those will probabaly have to wait because i want to make modern hairstyles too lol, as for ancient hairstyles, so far I'm looking into Chinese Paladin 1 styles ;)

    6. Yep my hair goes down to my shoulders! I can't wait to try a french braid! I remember I used to always wonder how to do that.

YAY modern hairstyles would be awesome too! I'll totally try some of them out.

There's one I really hope you'll do, it's one of my fav hairstyles all time, the young Zixuan one where her hair is down with bangs.

      Here's a pic: http://www.ancientchinese.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/Chinese_Paladin_3_Episode_17_Recap_012.jpg
Although I think that requires a few more accessories.

    7. Sweet the braid tutorial shall be up sometime this week!

I was actually contemplating about doing Zixuan's hairstyle but I have no idea what the back looks like haha. Do you happen to have a picture of it? I really love Linger and YueRu's hairstyles - I am planning to start on those soon - what do you think?

    8. I'm just downloading some screenshots now so I will look through them and see if I can find a back picture!

OMG I love Ling'er and YueRu's hairstyles too!! I would absolutely LOVE if you do those tutorials!! Do you need pics for those? Unfortuately I haven't found HQ pics past ep 2. I can look more on baidu, if you have an episode in mind, let me know cos I'd love to help with picture hunting :D hehe! It's so much funnn!

  4. I'm so drawn to your illustrations! I think I'm a klutz when it comes to styling my hair. I find this very complicated but no, it has nothing to do with your pictures at all. I love your drawings.
